Missionaries of the Kingship of Christ Consecrated Single Women – Professing Poverty, Chastity and Obedience
Founded: 1919 in Assisi, Italy by Agostino Gemelli, OFM and Armida Barelli; 1948 approved as a Secular Institute of Pontifical Rite; 1953 Established in the United States by Fr. Stephen Hartdegen, OFM and Barbara Ottinger.
Purpose: Evangelize where we work, live and pray in the Spirit of St. Francis; Living the Gospel message; Renewing the Church today.
Community: Through faith, love, sharing and a common commitment, a close bond is created among the Members. Through monthly Days of Recollection, annual retreats, publications, telephone, letters, e-mail.
Franciscan Spirituality: Christ centered, Simplicity of life style, Living the Gospel in the spirit of our Franciscan tradition, Love of Church and fidelity to the teaching authority of the Church, Cultivation of Franciscan virtues: Humility, Joy, Simplicity, Poverty, Peace, Generosity.
Requirements: Commitment to celibate life, A deep desire to grow in love of Christ, Strong interest in promoting Christian values in today’s society, A self-supporting profession or occupation, Freedom to live the Missionaries’ way of life, Attendance at monthly Days of Recollection, Attendance at yearly retreat offered by the Institute.
Prayer Life: Encounter with Christ in the Eucharist, Daily praying of the Liturgy of the Hours, Spiritual reading and meditation, Continual spiritual development through workshops and courses provided by the Institute
